Volunteers & Team

After the EU – Turkey statement, Lesvos Solidarity came to realize the necessity of setting up a small team of paid staff in order to cope with the growing needs of the refugee and local population in the island. The founders - all volunteers - along with the small group of paid staff make up the core team of Lesvos Solidarity. In addition to the core team, Lesvos Solidarity depends on a large group of international and local volunteers.

Active participation by residents, volunteers and team in the community life in the camp is at the heart of what Pikpa is about. We work together, we cook together, we eat together, we mourn together, we celebrate together.

In Lesvos Solidarity – Pikpa camp, an average number of 20 volunteers helps in running the daily activities in the camp, along with the residents who are able to help. Site maintenance & construction work, food distribution & cooking, clothes distribution, gardening, language support classes, cleaning, creative activities, children activities and translation work are examples of the various tasks that volunteers and residents help with on a daily basis.

Every week the core team, the volunteers and Pikpa’s residents participate in different meetings in order to share ideas, exchange information and discuss any possible problems.
