Job Vacancy | Trainer of tailors

The Safe Passage Bags workshop is a place where people of many backgrounds and nationalities work together to turn discarded items (dinghies, life jackets, tents, unusable clothes) into different kinds of bags and other products.

The two main tasks of the position of tailor & trainer are equally important: to sew the different kinds of bags, and to train others to be able to sew these items. The people that need to be trained have different levels of experience; some starting from zero, others being experienced tailors. As the trainer, you will work together with the coordination team to ensure the proper training of each tailor.

• Responsible for QA/QC
• Sewing different items, mostly bags, made of upcycled materials (life jackets, discarded clothing, dinghies, broken tents, etc.)
• Training tailors from different nationalities, different backgrounds, and different levels of sewing skills
• Adapting and developing existing designs 
• Drawing patterns or altering existing patterns
• Attend regular team meetings, and individual meetings as needed

• Minimum 2 years' experience sewing garments, preferably on industrial sewing machines
• Strong knowledge of sewing techniques and ability to read patterns
• Preferred: teaching and/or coaching experience, individual and/or groups

• Fluency in Greek or English, other languages (French, Farsi, Arabic) appreciated
• Open to different cultures, social backgrounds and ideas
