Overview of Project and Position

Every project has two aims:

a) To renovate an existing building to create suitable accommodation for the beneficiaries of the Housing program

b) To provide employment opportunities for recognized refugees as well as training for employment-related skills

This position is part of the second aim: it is meant for someone with (little) experience in construction work in Greece and includes

training and work on the construction site (75% of the time) as well as language courses and other employment-related training (25% of the time)

Key objectives / responsibilities of the role
  • Learn to do all necessary repair, maintenance and construction work according to instructions (i.e. plumbing, electricity, carpentry, etc.)
  • Perform any needed tests after any repair or maintenance
  • Work in collaboration with co-workers and specialised technicians
  • Keep working area safe clean and tidy
  • Look after all equipment and tools provided
  • Ensure that the Construction focal point is informed of any problems that might be linked to LeSol premises (Aishilou project).
  • Immediately inform the construction focal point of any problems that arise in the course of the work, particularly with regard to damage, loss, damage or attempted break-ins
  • Assist with the loading/unloading of building material
  • Perform any other tasks, as requested on the building site
  • Attend language classes as agreed at the start of the project
  • Attend other workshops about employment-related matters
  • (CV, writing, interview skills, and, labor rights and responsibilities, etc.) as agreed at the start of the project
  • Attend IT, classes, as agreed at the start of the project
Required degree/experience
  • Previous experience in construction or an interest in working in construction

Required qualities
  • Open to different cultures, social backgrounds, and ideas
  • Ability to work in an unstable and changing environment

 

Other tasks related to the project might be assigned @ active participation in LeSol meetings and events are also expected.
